Description
For the first time there will three keyboards and three pianists on the stage."For our last performance of the 20th Anniversary tour in 2014, we had 3 pianists together and the show achieved a freshness and vitality that breathed new life into a show that was still enthralling audience." says Ian.This year the three talents are Roelof Colyn, a Handful stalwart since 2001, beloved by audiences for his effortless charm, dead pan wit and the liquid magic of his playing.Bongi Mthobmeni is blessed with a beautiful voice, an impish personality, and an already impressive track-record in musicals as diverse as Starlight Express and Saturday Night Fever. James Smith, aged 19, is the youngest person to appear in A HANDFUL OF KEYS. As Ian says "It is a risk putting such a young person into a show as complicated and subtle as A HANDFUL OF KEYS Keys, but I believe that James, with his unique mix of musicality, quirky humour and the beautiful timbre of his expressive voice, is up to the challenge". Audiences can still expect highlights such as "The Complete History of  The Broadway Musical in 12 Minutes", Liberace, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Funeral for A Friend and the SA Medley but of course with three sparkling talents on stage the opportunities to invent new material are tantalizing! Don’t miss this "endlessly evergreen explosion of entertainment"
THANKS TO COUNTLESS REQUESTS FROM YOU, South Africa's most successful musical revue EVER returns!
Launched in 1994 as a co-creation between Ian von Memerty and Bryan Schimmel A HANDFUL OF KEYS has played to more the 420 000 people in over 1450 performances over the last 23 years! Multiple awards, love letters from the critics and adulation from audiences have poured in for this "brilliant, hilarious and virtuoso celebration of the piano." The show unravels as a constant surprise with devastating wit and musical mastery; from piano pyrotechnics to inspiring inventiveness - a two-hour fireworks display of excitement, energy and sheer, mind-blowing talent. This year, director Ian von Memerty, who has expanded and developed the show since 1997, has added a new and dazzling difference!

Description
From the star of Defending the Caveman, this hilarious exploration of  THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES (and the exes) continues in 2017 after sell-out seasons in Jo’burg and Cape Town last year.
Directed by Chris Weare
ALAN COMMITTIE, the star of the hit show, DEFENDING THE CAVEMAN, has decided that after 947 performances of the record-breaking comedy, it’s time to take a fresh look at relationships.
With a comic, honest and sometimes even touching look at couples, our 'Caveman' Committie continues to explore the daft differences between men and women; the foibles and quirks of marriage and dating - and will even finally try to provide the right answers to those loaded questions, "Do you think I look fat?", "Are you listening to me?" and "Would you prefer to go to the cricket or spend the day with me and my mom!?!"
In Love Factually our everyman hero also investigates everything from Tinder and text breakups; online attractions and detractions; surviving as a post-modern metro-quasi-dexi-semi-multi-mano-sexual to exploring single vs mingle; the apparent gift of having children and the supposed burden of family. You're going to love this fresh take on why it’s ok for men and women to be different!Love Factually - I mean, seriously, what the FACT?! "A gloriously funny look at the difference between men and women.  Mesmerising.  Genius." Peter Feldman - 48 Hours "It’s not just more of the same. There is much intelligent satire in the script and Committie’s exuberant delivery is a tonic. A pure delight." Beverley Brommert - Cape Argus "Committie has always had the edge over other comics in the way that he never goes for the obvious. Steyn du Toit - Cape Times

For the past 21 years ANDRE has held his audience spellbound with his dry wit, offbeat sense of humour and ability to get members of the public to do various strange, weird and incredibly entertaining routines on stage! ANDRE doesn't consider himself a Hypnotist. Instead, he firmly believes that his training in Theatre and Drama, combined with the willingness of the audience to participate and join in the fun, ensures that every performance is a great one.ANDRE THE HILARIOUS HYPNOTIST launched his career in the early 90's when he stepped onto the stage of the Victory Theatre on Louis Botha Avenue in Jo`burg for the beginning of what was supposed to be a three week season. Nine weeks later he was still filling the theatre to capacity.Following in the footsteps of his Mentor, the late Max Collie, ANDRE aims to provide high quality, family-friendly fun for young and old (even though youngsters are not allowed to take to the stage). Mystifying and spellbinding, you're in for a treat from the moment that ANDRE walks onto stage, to the end of his amazing show when he takes his final bow. Description
EVITA BEZUIDENHOUTand the Kaktus of Separate Development.
It started in 1995 as the first show at Evita se Perron in Darling.
Every Sunday TANNIE EVITA peeled the onion of South African history, exposing the lies and the fantasies and delving deeper into where we were and where we are going. "Tannie Evita Praat Kaktus" became the longest running show in South Africa.
At last it has left the Swartland to confront one of the most controversial issues in our democracy: the real history of South Africa and the right to laugh at the lies.
Today everyone is free to celebrate a story of survival - all except the Afrikaner. While their history was the foundation to everyone's story from 1652 to 1994, it takes the most famous white woman in South Africa to bring out the truth and expose the spin. Harry Potter and Indiana Jones would be envious.
Assisted by visual aids reflecting a familiar terrain of history, from the arrival of a small Dutch ship called the Drommedaris to the coronation of a former political prisoner called Madiba, EVITA will take her audience on a unique great trek as she follows the journey of the Kaktus of Separate Development (Kaktaceae Apartica) from its arrival in 1652 to its reinvention in 1994 - right up to the headlines of today.
Not for the fainthearted who still believe that civilization arrived with Jan van Riebeeck!

Evita Bezuidenhout

Description

Asher Lev grows up as a "Torah Jew" in post-war Crown Heights, Brooklyn.  In 1952, at the age of 6, he is seized by his Muse, irresistibly driven to draw and to apprehend the world through the prism of his vision. His parents, Aryeh and Rivkeh, refugees from Stalin’s Soviet Union, are devout followers of the unquestioned authority of the Rebbe.  Aryeh is dedicated to the support and rescue of oppressed Russian Jews, consigning him to constant travel for diplomacy, fundraising, building schools and reclaiming shuls. In his long absences, Asher and his mother are particularly close, and she can be supportive of his gift even as his father considers it a waste of time and a distraction from study. .Aryeh must navigate her commitments to both men through their irreconcilable conflicts, and within herself she must adapt, and survive her inconsolable griefs and frustrated drives for personal fulfilment. The development of Asher’s great talent is traced in a setting where tradition and individualism are in constant conflict and the tension between religion and art is life-long. Asher is driven to make a choice.
MY NAME ASHER LEV by AARON POSNERadapted from the bestselling novel by CHAIM POTOK Winner of the Outer Critic Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play.Winner of the prestigious John Gassner Memorial Playwriting Award. For as long as he can remember, Asher Lev wanted to draw. Needed to draw.  Every surface was a canvas for his mystifying gift.
"One of the best plays of the year!"    Huffington Post "You should see it, your children should see it, everyone should see it!" New York Magazine "Compellingly personal yet universal piece of art about art and tradition."  Associated Press "Both complex and direct.  A concise yet deeply satisfying entertainment, it offers a moving and rich experience, the relish of theatrical storytelling conjures up unflagging delights."   Hollywood Reporter

Description
Having performed alone on the stages of the world well over seven thousand times, Pieter-Dirk Uys has learnt that every show is the first and the last performance - because each audience demands and gets a different energy, topicality and excitement. Now in his 70th year, Pieter-Dirk doesn’t glance back at the successes and failures that have strengthened his belief in a constant improvement of his work, but at those small signposts that throughout his life subconsciously pointed him in a right and original direction. His father Hannes Uys and his mother Helga Bassel. His grandmothers, his teachers, his passions. Sophia Loren, censorship, false eyelashes and making a noise when everyone demanded silence.
''This is just Pieter-Dirk Uys speaking and he opens his heart and talks about his private and public life. He leads you into his inner sanctuary, takes you through our history and shows us where what is public and private meet. Uys was and still is a voice in the wilderness. He remains a master storyteller who can make as much fun of himself as he does with the others who get a lashing from his sharp tongue. The packed auditorium rose as one with a 'Bravo Pieter!' and the standing ovation was thunderous. An artist who can still cause a major traffic jam outside the theatre!''

Description
Downtown Abbey and The Twilight Saga collides in Charles Ludlam's side-splitting comedy that explodes onto the stage in July.
Jonathan Roxmouth and Weslee Swain Lauder star in this spoof where all the residents of the Mandacrest estate travel from the moors of England to the tombs of Egypt and back again, encountering along their way a host of vampires, werewolves, mummies and all manner of things that go bump in the night. With Gothic plot turns thrown out like thumbtacks on the road and a stage packed full of outrageous sets and costumes, Irma Vep is a visual feast that will have you in stitches right up until the final twist!
In a remote manor called Mandacrest, something is amiss. Between the horrors of a marauding beast terrorizing the estate and the looming presence of the recently deceased former mistress Irma Vep, Lord Edgar and his new wife, Lady Enid, are having a rough time. Add to that the fact that the maid, Jane, is utterly devoted to the memory of her former mistress and Nicodemus, the groundsman, has a little problem that won't quite go away, and matters become awkward in the extreme.
Even more bizarre than the cast of characters is the fact that all of these lunatics, beasts, ghouls and gentlefolk are played by only two lightning-witted actors. In fact, the play is often referred to as a quick change act!
The Mystery of Irma Vep, which harks back to more romantic days (before Scary Movie 1 through 28), is a delightfully comedic take on the good, old fashioned Penny Dreadful genre of days gone by.

Description
When the accident prone, inept Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society receives an unexpected financial legacy, the amateur group decides to put the windfall to good use. But when they attempt to put on a complicated 1920s murder mystery play, all hell lets loose. Everything that can possibly go wrong does so, to hilarious effect, and audiences find the resulting chaos so funny that the entire theatre ends up in complete, total, happy disarray, night after night. So Camps Bay is sure to see people streaming out of the theatre grinning from ear to ear and wiping their eyes! Will the players manage to get everything sorted out before the final curtain rises? Come along and find out for yourself. ... as long as you're prepared to risk your composure, and don't mind completely losing your cool as the relentless funny stuff takes its toll, it's wholly brilliant! Excellent comedy timing, expert verbal and physical funnies, it's one of the best comedies to hit the stage for some time.
If you fall about laughing at Basil Fawlty's antics in Fawlty Towers and loved the backstage shenanigans of Noises Off, you'll adore this smash hit of a comedy play.
The Play That Goes Wrong theatre tickets - marvellously, ridiculously funny.
